Family Protocol
GFP | Governance Family Protocol
Family businesses are a cornerstone of the national and world economy, accounting for almost 80% of the Portuguese business fabric, 65% of the national GDP and 50% of the country's employment.
Not all of them are small companies, but they often have a culture of leading by example and focusing on the transmission of values, such as the preservation of knowledge, a tradition of quality, a sense of belonging and resilience, which are typically their strengths.
The challenges of managing family businesses
The main challenges facing this type of company are usually the following:
Governance Family Protocol (GFP)
CCA has created the GFP Governance Family Protocol to help companies face these challenges and be prepared for the future, ensuring the continuity of their business.
Through a discovery process, this service aims to map out and ensure that the company's reality is well defined and that all weaknesses are identified.
This process is carried out in two phases:
Phase I: Discovery
First and foremost, it is important to ascertain the company's level of maturity in terms of Governance and Compliance, identifying the existing internal policies.
This phase includes interviews and ends with the preparation of a final report containing:
-
Any non-conformities that may be detected;
-
The level of risk of these non-conformities; and
-
A mitigation plan.
Phase II: Implementation
The implementation of this project includes a survey of any procedures that need to be implemented and takes into account the level of risk associated with each non-conformity detected.
This phase includes:
-
Drawing up a family protocol regulating all family relations in companies, thus creating a Family Governance system;
-
Establishing and implementing internal policies, procedure manuals, codes of ethics and conduct, among others that may be necessary.
