André Filipe Morais, Associate of the Technology, Media and Telecommunications Department of CCA Law Firm, writes an opinion piece for the IT Channel magazine about the need to establish an ethical and legal framework for Artificial Intelligence technologies, such as facial recognition.
"From a legal point of view, the use of artificial intelligence associated with facial recognition for the collection and processing of citizens' data should be limited by three fundamental axes of the protection of personal data - proportionality (in terms of necessity and relevance ), limitation by purpose and, finally, the right to be informed and to appeal the decision resulting from the use of these technologies, with human intervention" says André Filipe Morais. However, the lawyer emphasizes that "there can be no illusions - only by erecting the liberal and European matrix of rights and freedoms will it be possible for us not to be at the mercy of the Party and its Big Brother."
