CCA ONTIER Law Firm has just launched CCA ON, a Center of Knowledge and Innovation, whose main objective is to join synergies in the area of knowledge sharing between the CCA, Universities, Companies, Partners and the Community. The aim is to take advantage of the know-how of these entities to promote competences in key areas such as programming, law, psychology, digital economy, new technologies, among others. CCA ON’s purpose is to centralize and diversify knowledge and research through a set of partnerships with, for example, the EBA (Emotional Business Academy) dedicated to research and behavioral analysis.
According to Rita Cruz, responsible for this project, « CCA ON means ‘connected’, and is based on the idea of an innovative platform capable of linking four fundamental vectors: lawyers, students, companies and the community. To link lawyers to companies, especially those operating in the technology sector or those that saw their business models altered by technological evolution, with a view to reflect and form reciprocally to the new realities and challenges that this century imposes. To link law students to lawyers and companies, acknowledging that the future of lawyers is no longer solely focused on the traditional areas of law, but must also include innovation, as well as the new technologies and that most likely the 'typical lawyer' as we know it will disappear in the near future. Finally, CCA ON will also have a strong social responsibility component, linking lawyers to the community, especially third sector projects. »
For Rui Mergulhão Mendes, Founder and Pedagogical Director of the EBA «The partnership with CCA ON intends to think about new skills in the field of communication - what does the new lawyer need to know? Of these competencies, we emphasize: the analysis of linguistics, the analysis of the body language, of the facial expression - everything that is communicated to us. I think it is essential today, in the area of justice, to know how to determine everything that is communicated to us independently of what we are told. If there is a sector of activity where the discovery of truth is fundamental, justice is one of them. »
The launch of CCA ON, which took place last March 12th at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, was based on a debate about the decoding of the process of false memories, with a panel composed of: José Eduardo Pinto da Costa, Medical Doctor and Full Professor; Maria João Matos, Judge of the High Court of Guimarães; Filipe Alves, Director of Jornal Económico; Rui Mergulhão Mendes, Behavioral Analyst, and culminated with the performance of the well-known mentalist João Blümel.
The first event is scheduled for May and will be in partnership with the ELSA Portugal (European Law Students' Association).
