Cases against the unauthorized use by Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems of works protected by copyright have been increasing worldwide. Eduardo Magrani, Senior Consultant in the TMT practice at CCA Law Firm, explained to Jornal de Negócios what is at stake and how to protect against the unlawful use of data.
Some countries have tried to overcome this issue by amending the applicable legislation so that it specifically covers issues related to data processing and the use of artificial intelligence. As for Portugal, Eduardo Magrani stresses that the country "must be prepared to deal with this type of cases, and that it is crucial that the legal system and legal players balance the interests of the creators and users of artificial intelligence systems".
