Júlia da Costa Ribeiro analyses the D7 Visa as a gateway to residency in Portugal

News

Portugal continues to attract retirees and individuals with independent income, and the D7 Visa remains a key mechanism for those seeking to establish residence in the country without financial investment.

In an article for The Portugal News, Júlia da Costa Ribeiro, Principal Associate in the Private Clients Practice Area at CCA Law Firm, explains the advantages of the D7 Visa for non-EU/EEA/Swiss nationals who can demonstrate regular passive income, such as pensions, dividends, or rental income.

“The D7 Visa is an excellent option for retirees and individuals with passive income who wish to live in Portugal. This visa offers a cost-effective and straightforward pathway to residency without the need for significant financial investment, making it accessible to a broader range of applicants,” explains the lawyer.

The D7 Visa leads to a Temporary Residence Permit, initially valid for two years and renewable thereafter. It also enables family reunification and provides a route to Portuguese citizenship after five years of legal residence, provided the necessary conditions are met.
