Marta Duarte, CCA Law Firm's Partner, was invited yesterday to "Jornal da Meia-Noite", of SIC Notícias, where she commented and analyzed the cancellation of finalists' trips and their respective reimbursement, in view of the pandemic situation of the Coronavirus. The parents of some 10,000 students who paid for finalists' trips to Spain asked for government intervention after the XTravel agency refused to cancel the trips, following the Covid-19 outbreak.
The agency in question proposes to the student to choose between: participation in the trip, according to what was contracted; participation in the event, but in December; cancellation of registration by refunding 30% of the amount already paid; or cancellation of the registration with a credit corresponding to 50% of the amount already paid for use in other XTravel products.
"Considering that travels to the country in question have not yet been prohibited by the authorities, it will be difficult or questionable that these trips are covered in cases of exceptional circumstances provided for by law, in which full reimbursement is possible", explains Marta Duarte.
