Martim Bouza Serrano, Partner and Coordinator of the CCA's Technology, Media and Telecommunications Department, writes an opinion piece for Observador, on the dangerous precedent that technological solutions currently used to fight and track Covid-19 have for the privacy of individual citizens. Although the idea of geolocating virus carriers seems tempting, this monitoring is done to the obvious detriment of our space for the supposed benefit of a better place for all.
"Any measure or limitation which may be imposed, even temporary, in addition to creating a dangerous precedent, will always have the perverse effect of increasing our level of tolerance for measures which limit our rights", explains Martim Bouza Serrano.
