The wage bonus progamme aimed at attracting and retaining skilled workers will repay the fees paid to universities in order to retain qualified young professionals in the country.
The programme shall cover all citizens who are resident in Portugal for tax purposes and who meet the necessary criteria, such as: holding a bachelor's or master's degree or a recognised foreign academic degree, receive category A or B personal income, are 35 years old or younger and are in good standing before the Tax and Social Security Authorities.
Patrícia Cabriz, Associate in the Private Clients practice, spoke to Trabalho by ECO magazine and emphasised that foreign nationals and those who have not studied in Portugal can also benefit from this bonus, as long as they are registered as tax residents in Portugal and pay personal income tax (IRS) in the country.
