Pedro Antunes, CCA ONTIER's Labor and Social Security Coordinator, wrote an opinion article for Público on the protection that the Portuguese law confers to the Ryanair cabin crew who joined the strike. Convened by the Civil Aviation National Flight Staff Union (SNPVAC), this strike claims the application of national law to workers at the company's bases in Portugal, because they are not respecting medical casualties and absences due to parenthood.
'The right to strike is enshrined in Article 57 of the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic and, as a fundamental right of the workers, it cannot be renounced. This is a 'strongly guarded' right since the Basic Law does not limit the ordinary legislator to regulate the right to strike, otherwise, its exercise will be subject to political and ideological variations', says Pedro Antunes.
