The European Commission has presented a legislative package on digital services including the Digital Services Act (DSA) and the Digital Markets Act (DMA).
The Digital Services Act (DSA), which entered into force on 16 November 2022, will start to be applied in the Portuguese legal system on 17 February 2024.
Given the importance of the topic, CCA will make available, as of January 2023, a monthly Newsletter where it will address the main obligations, novelties and requirements introduced by this legal instrument, among others:
- Measures to combat illegal goods, services or content online;
- New measures to empower users and society;
- Measures to assess and mitigate risks;
- Enhanced supervision and enforcement by the Commission when it comes to large online platforms.
We remind you that the online services covered by the DSA include:
- Intermediary services offering network infrastructure;
- Hosting services;
- Very large online search engines (with more than 45 million users);
- Online platforms bringing together sellers and consumers;
- Very large online platforms (with more than 45 million users).
Therefore, online platform providers have until 17 February 2023 to publish the average monthly number of active users of the service in the Union, but other important dates follow.
