The new Portuguese Data Protection Law, Law No. 58/2019 of August 8th, which ensures the implementation, in the national legal order, of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the Parliament and council, of April 27th 2016, on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data (GDPR), was published today.
In addition to repealing the old data protection law (Law No. 67/98 of October 26th), the new data protection law sets out some of the rules on which the GDPR - in force since May 25th 2019 - had left room for maneuver from the Member States to approve specifications.
The diploma takes effect from tomorrow, August 9th, 2019.
