On March 1, 2022, the Council of Ministers passed a resolution approving the granting of temporary protection to Ukraine nationals and respective family members, as a result of the war taking place in Ukraine.
This temporary protection includes the automatic granting of a residence permit valid for one year (with the possibility of renewal).
Applications for this protection must be submitted before SEF (The Portuguese Immigration and Borders Service), whether in person or digitally, inside or outside national territory. For application purposes, applicants may provide evidence of their nationality or origin, by any means available.
The application is automatically reported by SEF to the Social Security Office, the Tax and Customs Authority, the Shared Services of the Ministry of Health, E. P. E. and the Institute of Employment and Vocational Training, I. P. (IEFP), for registration purposes and for the issue of the applicant’s identification numbers before such entities.
